Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will have overall operational responsibility and input regarding strategic planning for Fort Worth Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Coalition’s (FWAYAOC) execution of its mission. The successful candidate will develop deep knowledge of the field, be responsible for core programs, operations, and business plan working in close cooperation and collaboration with the Board of Directors, Officers and our Partner organizations.




The FWAYAOC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization made up of healthcare representatives from 7 Fort Worth medical institutions, 2 educational institutions and 2 cancer support organizations and more than 500 AYA survivors and their families, advocates and passionate volunteers who are working together to improve the lives of young people, ages 15 to 39, diagnosed with cancer in our community. Together we are fulfilling our vision that every adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer patient in our community will receive comprehensive and age appropriate care of the highest standard.

The FWAYAOC is one year into a three-year comprehensive campaign to provide funding for the development, implementation and sustained operations of the following AYA programs: navigation services, comprehensive psychosocial services, peer-to-peer activities and support, interventional research and outcome research. In May 2016, our coalition opened America’s first community supported AYA oncology inpatient unit and infusion center for patients ages 18 to 29, located inside and managed by Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth.

The Coalition Partners are Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center—Fort Worth, Cancer Care Services, Cook Children’s Medical Center Fort Worth, JPS Health Network, Moncrief Cancer Institute, Texas Christian University—Harris College of Nursing, Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth, Texas Oncology, The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, The Rutledge Foundation and University of North Texas Health Science Center.

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • 4 or more years’ senior level management or experience with financial development for small or mid-sized organizations; Non-profit experience preferred.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and volunteers.
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to mentor staff and volunteers; manage and develop high performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with various partners, AYAs, community, businesses public entities, volunteers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Experience planning, developing and implementing strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth.
  • Demonstrated fundraising success with a prior capital or comprehensive campaign.
  • Experience with fundraising software.

  • Ability to convey a vision of FWAYAOC’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers, community and donors.
  • Excellent written, leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen; ability to effectively interpret financial statements and identify areas of improvement, address problems and develop forecasts; experience working with corporate accountant and independent audit teams.
  • Ability to effectively share the Board’s commitment with the community in a manner which reflects the integrity of each institution who shares a passion for the FWAYAOC mission.
  • Solid, hands-on budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting.
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, program development and task facilitation.
  • Assured public presence and comfort level with business and community leaders; ability to communicate the case for support in lay terms to trustees and other stakeholders; ability to effectively make presentations to prospective donors and board members.
